Bear's Treasure Trove
An Acknowledgement
I love finding little treasures while I'm walking around. I seem to notice, or at least care to pick up, stuff more than other people around me. Finding trinkets makes me feel both euphoric and guilty, which I find really fascinating. Finding something special on the ground, especially something I find value in, is so exciting. I feel lucky to have stumbled upon this thing and am excited to add it to my collection.
On the other hand though, I always feel a little guilty to take this thing that was obviously dropped accidentally. How much value did it have to its owner? Will they walk back this way hoping to find it, not knowing that someone else snatched it up?
The things I find aren't actually worth much of anything monetarilly, but I always feel at least a little guilty taking something that could have some emotional value to someone. I could leave it on the sidewalk or in the dirt, but it's pretty unlikely they'll ever find it, so I give it a new home instead.
This treasure trove is my way of honoring these little gifts and thanking the unlucky people that dropped them.
The Treasures
I never remember where I find buttons. They just appear one day and then vanish again, continuing the button gain and loss cycle.
This one I did feel more guilty about picking up. It's a pretty nice pin, but the back broke off. I found it by my bus stop.
This was one of two coins I found on the ground at a renaissance fair. I'm sure they were part of someone's costume. Picking them up from the dirt definitely made me feel like I had found some old loot.
This one was pretty beat up when I found it. It's a watermelon Jibbitz that must have broken off of someone's croc. When I was in first grade, a girl in my class claimed that her dad created Jibbitz. This is a normal type of thing kids lie about, but one day she brought in a huge bowl of Jibbitz for everyone to take from, so maybe she was the very rare case of a child not lying about their dad's cool-to-kids job.
I found this on the steps at my job. Seems like some sort of college zipper attachment or keychain perhaps.
These are my favorite find so far! I found these scattered on the floor outside my local library. Someone's bracelet probably snapped and these little beads spilled all over. I only found these four that were left behind in the cracks of the sidewalk. I just love the little colored balls in the center of these.
This earring sparkled up at me from a crosswalk near one of my classes. It's just plastic, otherwise I would have tried to take it to some sort of lost and found. Maybe I can turn it into something...
